Hello! Aren’t you glad that Fall is finally just around the corner? I know I am. New Fall yarns and patterns are arriving here at the store and making me want to start a million projects. I love this time of year! Before I tell you about all the new stuff, I want to let you know that regular store hours will resume September 1st. Christmas is on the way, and I want to give everyone more shopping time so that you can get started on those gift projects. Regular hours are 10AM-6PM Monday-Wednesday, Friday, & Saturday, 10AM-8PM Thursday, and closed on Sunday. Regular hours will remain in effect until next June-August when Summer hours will be back. I hope that’s not too confusing. Oh, and the store will be closed Monday, September 7th for Labor Day.
OK, on to the new stuff!
All the new Classic Elite pattern books have arrived along with Fresco, which is their new 60% wool, 30% baby alpaca, 10% angora yarn. It knits up to about 6.5 stitches per inch on US5 needles so it’s great for stranded colorwork or any pattern calling for sport weight yarn. There is a great hat pattern for this yarn in Jared Flood’s new Made In Brooklyn booklet, which is already almost sold out, but never fear there is a new shipment on the way ![]()
Minnow Knits patterns by Jill Eaton and her super soft superwash Minnow Merino yarn are also here. I really love this yarn, and the patterns come in a handy fold-out card so they fit easily in your bag.
Another new machine washable yarn we have is Universal Classic Shades. This worsted weight acrylic blend has a more subtle self stripe effect than the Classic Worsted LP and comes in some really pretty jewel tone colorways that you have to see in person.
Kertzer Marble Chunky has also arrived. This is a crazy fun bulky self striping yarn that comes in HUGE skeins. Seriously, 3-5 skeins does an adult size sweater, and 5 is enough for a good sized afghan. It arrived earlier this month and I’ve already re-ordered both the yarn and the easy Weekend Jacket pattern that came with it. More pattern booklets are on the way for afghans and other sweaters too.
More new Fall/Winter things are showing up every day, and I have to make room for them so the CLEARANCE section over by the wall of needles is bursting with cottons, soysilk, and other warm weather goodies at 30% down to more than 50% off, so come check that out. I’ll give you an extra 10% off if you buy all remaining stock of one color and remind me that I said so.
The Class list for September & October is up too. Look for it over there in the side bar at the right.

Help Knit the World’s Longest Scarf
Join in the fun of knitting the World’s Longest Scarf while helping raise money to fight poverty around the world.
As part of the celebration of the International Year of Natural Fibres, Keep the Fleece in partnership with Heifer International is helping to organize teams around the world to knit sections of the World’s Longest Scarf that will all be joined together at the New York Sheep & Wool Festival Oct. 17-18, 2009.
Our goal is to raise $250,000.00 that Heifer Intenational will use to donate fleece-bearing animals of all kinds to needy families all around the world. Heifer not only donates the animals, but provides the necessary training so that the families can nurture and grow their herds and become self-sufficient. (For more information about Heifer, please visit their website, www.heifer.org.
We ask everyone who participates to consider a donation of $1.00 per row knitted/crocheted or $10.00 per inch woven/felted. Keep the Fleece will collect the donations from the teams and pass it on to Heifer.
If you’d like to participate, bring your $$ to Stringtown, let me know how many rows you want to sponsor, and knit on the scarf or just sponsor some rows and someone else will knit them for you. You’ll get your name on the wall
OR you can go to the keep the fleece website to donate via paypal. Don’t forget to look for the space on paypal to put in your team name, and enter “stringtown yarn” as your team.
